LEAD Board

The Institute for Village Studies (IVS) Leadership Exploration and Development (LEAD) Board is a diverse representation of Washington’s brightest women and men ages 20-40 years old. LEAD promotes and supports the mission of IVS to provide innovative learning opportunities that affirm social and environmental justice worldwide. The board advances these objectives by:

  • Increasing membership support and awareness of IVS and its programs through social networking, public outreach, and various public relations outreach.

  • Managing and designing event planning and fundraising activities (including networking and collaborating with other agencies) towards an annual IVS fundraising goal.

  • Designing and participating in curriculum development and community/international based projects based on IVS programs and initiatives.

Become a Village Champion

Join our campus outreach team and help spread the word about IVS programs. IVS Champions will play an active role in helping develop and implement the on-campus marketing and communications strategy each quarter. This will include co-developing a plan with IVS staff and select board members, as well as working with the group to carry out activities.

What will you gain?

  • Transferable skills in outreach & marketing that may help you in your future career

  • Hone your leadership skills by becoming a peer mentor for students that are about to leave on an IVS trip

  • Stay engaged in IVS activities in Bellingham after you return from your trip abroad

  • A stipend to help compensate for transportation and other costs to be a Village Champion

Location: University campuses, including WWU

Oversight: You will work directly with the Executive Director of IVS, as well as members of the IVS Leadership Board. If you're at the beginning of your career this is a great way to gain experience and get first-hand knowledge of how an NGO operates, and a unique perspective on international education and development.

Volunteer or Intern

Are you passionate about global issues and looking for a way to get more experience in international programming and development? We need your help! IVS strives to give volunteers and interns meaningful experiences and will work with you to tailor a position to your interests, availability and commitment level.

Volunteer or Intern Projects Might Include:

  • Community outreach

  • Online & print marketing and communications

  • Fundraising for overseas projects

  • Research on a variety of issues related to NGO management, international development and study abroad

  • Event planning

  • Or any project we can dream up - the possibilities are limitless!

Location: Bellingham, WA, and surrounding areas
